It is difficult to imagine but as of 2007 there were more than 1.5 million home schooled students in the United States. This number seems unreal when you consider that ten years ago home schooling would have been considered an unusual or abnormal occurrence in many communities. With so many people currently in a situation where they are at home a portion of the day it is a choice they are able to make. There are so many advantages to homeschooling a student that it is easy to see why many have chosen this option.
Many parents find that when they home school their children they are better able to manage what social information their children come in contact with. This allows them to expose them to certain things at a rate of speed that they feel appropriate and does not put the student at the will of the public school and the individuals in it. Homeschooling can also give the parents the advantage of being able to help the student direct their studies in a particular direction allowing them to better prepare for college courses and career choices.
An increase in online education has opened new doors for home schooled students. These students are now able to more effectively study topics that affect society from their own home. This gives them more exposure to appropriate topics of study and makes studying an easier task. In addition, the advent of amazing online communications opens up the home schooling arena making it easier for them to stay in communications with others in similar situations. This makes the home schooled student less closed off from society and reduces the lack of social experience that they undergo. The home schooled student is no longer considered to be a person shut in and away from others in society.
